2 applicants in court for alleged robbery, cultism

Lagos, April 13, 2018 (NAN) Two applicants, Friday Iro, 22, and Daniel Emezemu, 28, were on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on charges bordering on alleged robbery with a knife and belonging to a cult group.

Iro and Emezemu, who reside at Oshodi, Lagos, are being tried for alleged conspiracy, belonging to unlawful society and robbery.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, had told the court that the offences were committed on March 28, at Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos.

Ogu said that the accused persons belong to a secret society called “Arobanga confraternity”, that disturb the peace of residents of Oshodi-Mushin and environs.

“The accused persons robbed Hammed Abdullah of his N13,000 at ‘knife-point,’ but they were later caught when they wanted to rob another person,” he said.

Ogu said that a call was put across to the police that some angry youths wanted to burn some suspected thieves and the police came to the scene.

The offences contravened Sections 40, 297 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Chief Magistrate J. A. Adegun granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until April 18 for mention. (NAN)
