2 men in court over alleged possession of firearms, cultism

Ikeja, May 7, 2019 (NAN) Two men, Michael Adeneye and Segun Oladipupo, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates‘ Court in Lagos for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and belonging to a secret cult.

Adeneye, 27, and Oladipupo, 28, are facing charges of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearm and belonging to secret cult.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with some other persons still at large on Feb. 16 at 5:00 p.m. at No. 1, Aloma St., Off Haruna in Ikorodu, near Lagos.

Unah said that the defendants were caught by the police with an unlicensed double barrel pistol, four axes, one Berretta magazine, 19 live Berretta ammunition and 50 cartridges.

He also alleged that the defendants belonged to a secret cult, known as “Alora confraternity.’’

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 41, 411 and 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 330 provides a two-year jail term for illegal possession of a firearms.

The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 21. (NAN)
