Sandals

Lagos, June 21, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old man, Zama Bulama, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing a pair of sandals at a mall.
Bulama, who resides at Majekodunmi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, is facing a charge of stealing.
Police Prosecutor Yomi Egunjobi told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 28 at Ikeja Shopping Mall.
Egunjobi said the accused came to the shop of the complainant, Mr Ezema Emmanuel, at the mall, pretending to buy the pair of sandals.
“But in the process of price bargaining, the accused stole a pair of sandals valued at N5,700 in the shop.
“When Emmanuel discovered that the sandals had disappeared, he saw the accused running away and he shouted for help.
“The accused was immediately apprehended by some people,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, entered a `not guilty’ plea.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A. R. Osinbajo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case has been adjourned until July 4 for a mention. (NAN)
