Kano, Feb. 15, 2017 (NAN) The National Population Commission (NPC) in Kano State is to begin the third phase of the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) on Feb. 20, in Kabo Local Government Area of the state.
The state NPC Federal Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Surajo Sani-Marshal, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Kano.
Sani-Marshal said the exercise which would be conducted between Feb. 20 and March 10, was part of the preparations for the 2018 population and Housing Census in the country.
“As you are aware, population census is the enumeration of all persons resident in a country or a well-defined geographic unit at a particular time.
“In order to effectively enumerate all these persons within a reasonable period, it becomes imperative to divide the whole land mass of the country into smaller units for easy coverage by enumerators during the census exercise.
“This, in essence, constitutes the enumeration area demarcation which is one of the core preparatory activities for the census exercise,” he said.
The NPC federal commissioner said at the end of the EAD phase three, the commission would have successfully demarcated two local government areas in the state, Tarauni Local Government Area being the first to be demarcated.
He said the commission had recruited no fewer than 50 personnel for the success of the exercise, pointing out the recruited persons were currently undergoing training which would end on Feb. 19.
He said the commission would deploy sophisticated technology to ensure that the exercise was successful.
“High resolution satellite imagery will be used to ensure that no area is left undemarcated or no place is duplicated.
“The methodology being adopted will not allow for the creation of imaginary enumeration area and any attempt to include non-existent households and buildings in the EAs will be detected through satellite imagery,” Sani-Marshal said. (NAN)
