Lagos, Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN) Four car dealers, who allegedly stole a car valued at N2.5 million, were on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Oladele Ayodeji, 43; Taofeek Fashola, 42; Amaechi Igbor, 42; and Paul Okakpu, 43 — whose addresses were not stated, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offences sometime in March 2016 at Iju-Ifako area of Lagos.
He said the accused conspired to steal a car valued at N2.5 million, property of the complainant, Mr Ani Caeser.
“The accused conspired to steal by converting the proceeds of a Toyota Corolla salon car 2010 model they sold to their use.”
Ogu said the complainant gave his car with its document to the accused, who are car dealers to sell and they called him three days later that the car had been stolen.
“The complainant gave his car and its document to the company of the accused to sell.
“They later called to inform him that they could not find the car where they parked it.”
The prosecutor said the car was later traced to a man, who claimed that he bought the car from the accused.
The offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused may be jailed for 15 years if found guilty, according to the provisions of Section 312.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and were each granted a N250, 000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni, adjourned the case to Feb. 3 for mention.(NAN)
