Ikeja, June 25, 2019 (NAN) Four unemployed men were on Tuesday granted N500,000 bail each by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing items worth N6 million.
Oluyemi Gbenga, 24; Daniel Igboramo, 19; Saheed Agbora, 29; and Faruk Rasak, 18, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, ordered the defendants to provide two sureties each as part of their bail conditions.
Sule-Amzat said that the sureties should be blood relations of the defendants and be gainfully employed.
She added that the sureties should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
Sule-Amzat adjourned the case until July 25 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with some other persons still at large.
He said they committed the offences on May 12 at 12.14 a.m., at Unity Market, Kola Junction, Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos.
Emuerhi said the defendants broke into the shop of the complainant, Mr Joseph Fatiregun, and stole mobile phones, phone accessories and laptops valued at N6 million.
“They broke into the shop through the ceiling using blades, pliers and other dangerous weapons.
“The defendants stole 108 phones, phone accessories such as memory cards, flash drives, power banks and 12 laptops,’’ he said.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants were apprehended by some security guards who handed them over to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 309 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for stealing.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty to the charges. (NAN)
