Kano, April 19, 2017 (NAN) The Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria (WFAN) in Kano State has constituted four committees to recover all outstanding loans from its members across the state.
The WFAN state chairman, Alhaji Faruk Rabi’u, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday.
He said the association found it necessary to set up the loan recovery committees in order to ensure prompt payment of the loans, as well as to meet the deadline for their recovery.
He said the state which comprised 44 Local Government Areas, was divided into four zones, in order to make the committees work easier.
“We have assigned a committee to each of the four zones, for easy recovery of the loans.
According to him, the farmers are expected to refund the loans they collected from the state government and the agro-dealer, Musayaf Nigeria Ltd, before the end of next month.
“Even though we have paid the agro dealer between 55 per cent and 60 per cent of the funds, a majority have yet to offset the one they collected from the state government,’’ he said.
Rabi’u urged beneficiaries of the loans to ensure prompt payment, to avoid any embarrassment.
He expressed happiness over the bumper harvest recorded this irrigation season and advised farmers against selling the produce at give-away prices.
“Wheat farmers have recorded a bumper harvest this irrigation season and it is our hope that they will be able to pay back their loans with ease,’’ he added. (NAN).
