Nasarawa information commissioner celebrates appointment, urges prayers, peace

Lafia, March 8, 2020 (NAN) Mr Dogo Shammah, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, has called on the people of the state to always pray and do things that would promote peaceful coexistence.

He made the call on Sunday in Lafia, at a thanksgiving to celebrate his 10th marriage anniversary and appointment as information commissioner by Gov Abdullahi Sule.

He said that given the alarming rate of vices in the society today, there was the need for everybody to resolve to stay in peace with others to ensure a progessive society.

“You cannot harbour bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness and other negative tendencies and expect a positive society.

“The society will only be peaceful if the people embrace peace and seek for redress through civilised means, instead of taking laws into their hands,” the commissioner added.

The Commissioner said that the state government had a lot of plans which were being implemented to improve the lives of the people, but could only be fully achieved in a peaceful environment.

Shammah also expressed gratitude to God for lifting him, a son of nobody, from nowhere, to the office of Commissioner, and promised to continue to serve God.

He also thanked the governor for finding him worthy to serve in his cabinet, and promised to bring his experience to bear to promote the image and activities of the government to the outside world.

In his sermon, Rev. Dr Donald Araf, who spoke on the theme; “Always Remember”, urged couples to always sacrifice for each other as the only criteria for sustaining marriage.

He said that sacrifices in marriage must be unconditional for couples in order to continue to lavish love on each other.

“The absence of sacrifice is responsible for so many problems bedeviling a lot of marriages in the country today.

“Communication gap is the reason why problems bedeviling marriages are not being addressed.

“No matter what is happening in marriages, couples must always communicate with each other in order to understand each other and make amends for sustainable marriage,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), reports that Shammah was the chairman of the state NUJ chapter when he was appointed as the commissioner of information last year. (NAN)
