International Women’s Day: Woman leader tasks women on quality time with family

Lagos, March 8, 2020 (NAN) Mrs Rachael Olorundare, Leader of Christian Mother’s Union, St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Amje, Alagbado, Lagos, has called on women to create time for their families as a primary responsibility.
Olorundare made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, in commemoration of the 2020 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration.
“I congratulate my fellow women in a special way today, because March 8 is a day set aside for IWD, where we are being celebrated all over the world.
“Being a woman comes with important responsibilities, starting from the home with care for husband and children, which requires time and commitment to live up to expectations.
“Though most women are career persons and supportive in their homes, which is commendable, spending quality time is equally important to compliment their efforts for a good home,” she said.
She added that most women, who had no time to be with their children due to busy schedule, were likely to produce children with bad characters.
According to her, children are prone to both negative and positive influences, adding, however, that it takes a careful woman to identify negative change in the behaviour of her child and do the needful.
“Spending quality time with children should be extended to gisting, counseling and imparting discipline in them as well as checking their bags and rooms regularly, and unannounced.
“They should even go the extra mile to know their friends, homes where they come from and monitor them through their class teachers, just to put a check on them as they grow,” she added.
Olorundare, popularly known as Mama Yard, advised parents to provide only necessary things that would add value to their children’s academic and moral lives.
NAN reports that IWD is a global day for celebrating social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world.
The theme for this year is “I am Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights”.
The theme is aligned with the United Nations’ women’s new multigenerational campaign, that is, generational equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. (NAN)
