Unemployed charged with theft of school laptops

Ikeja, March 9, 2020(NAN) A 25-year-old man, Sunday Obi, who allegedly broke into a school building and stole two laptops valued N200,000, was on Monday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Obi, who resides at 6, Ogo Olorun St., Sango Ota, Ogun, was charged with  conspiracy, stealing and burglary but he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that Obi committed the offences on Feb. 3 and Feb. 5 at the Academic Solid Secondary School located at No. 1, Arogundade Road, Aboru, Lagos.

Ogu alleged that the defendant and his accomplice burgled the office of the school proprietor, Mr Yomi Akinlalu’s, and stole two HP laptops worth  N200,000.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant and his accomplice came back another day to steal a scanning machine, but were  caught by  security guards.

“The defendant was thereafter brought to a police station,” Ogu said.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 307 , 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of  N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until March 23 for mention. (NAN)
