Court adjourns case challenging alleged deduction of workers salary till Jan.31

Abuja, Jan.16, 2017 (NAN) The National Industrial Court has adjourned till Jan. 31 a case seeking to stop the deduction of N16 million from the salaries of workers of the Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society United of the National Council for Arts and Culture.

Mr Dennis Olotu, the General Secretary of the cooperative, had sued the NCAC challenging the alleged deduction of alleged misappropriation of N16 million from his salary since 2013.

Olotu joined the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) as co-respondent.

The judge, Justice Edith Agbakoba, on Monday adjourned the case to enable the respondents get legal representation.

The counsel to NCAC, Ms M. Mushelia, had told the court that the respondents had a difficulties getting legal representation.

Mushelia asked the court to grant a short adjournment to enable the respondents sort out the issue of representation.

Counsel to the claimant John Abutu expressed displeasure at what, he called, the respondent’s antics of deferring cases all the time.

Olotu is challenging his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of N16 million with other officials of the cooperative.

He is also seeking for a perpetual injunction stopping the respondents from further interfering in his salary and an order to stop the respondent further deduction and refund monies deducted. (NAN)
