Asaba, April 11, 2020 (NAN) The Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori, on Saturday urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the country and to keep hope alive amidst the terror occasioned by the COVID-19.
The Speaker made this appeal in his Easter message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Dennis Etu, and made available to the newsmen in Asaba.
He said that Jesus Christ laid down his life for mankind and “He is the reason for the season”.
Oborevwori said that the whole world would be celebrating Easter in an unusual way this year and implored all and sundry to pray for healing of the world, just as he said that after “darkness, there will be light again”.
While felicitating with Christians on the occasion of Easter, he appealed to all Nigerians to be more prayerful than ever before, saying that the world was going through a trying period.
“With a grateful heart and a sober mind, I join thousands of Deltans to wish all Christians Happy Easter celebration.
“Easter is all about the trial, crucifixion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a time for sober reflection.
“However, we are celebrating this year’s Easter in very challenging circumstances occasioned by the outbreak and fast-spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic globally.
“But as children of the Living God, we should not despair, let us be prayerful and look up to the Author and Finisher of our Faith. This current dark hour across the globe will give way to light,” the Speaker said.
Oborevwori urged Nigerians to have the same mind as that of the Saviour of mankind, Jesus Christ, in order for the world to know peace and be healed.
He called on residents to pray for their dear state and its health workers who were at the frontline in the fight for God to protect them.
“I want to commend our Governor for his relentless efforts in this trying period. He has been able to keep Deltans informed on situation of things in the state.
“My heart goes out to the family of those deceased as a result of the pandemic on Thursday in the state and pray God to grant his soul eternal rest.
“Let me also use this opportunity to wish the confirmed COVID-19 patient a speedy recovery. This period will also pass away,” he said.
Oborevwori admonished all Deltans to observe and adhere to instructions given by the state government on regular hand washing with soap, use of hand sanitisers and social distancing to curtail any eventuality.
“The Holy Son of God has risen, may we be saved through the Power of His Resurrection and as we celebrate, stay home, stay safe and stay alive to support each other.
“Wishing Deltans, Nigerians and Christians all over the world Happy Easter celebration,” the speaker said. (NAN)
