Adamawa Muslim council urges faithful to fast, intensify prayers against coronavirus

Yola, April 16, 2020 (NAN) The Adamawa Muslim Council has called on faithful to intensify prayers for God’s to intervene in the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world.
The Chairman of the council, Mr Gambo Jika, gave the advice on Thursday in Yola.
Jika said that the grave danger posed by the virus undescored the need for divine intervention and protection.
“As the federal and state governments are tirelessly making effort to contain the coronavirus pandemic, Muslim faithful should fast and engage in intensive prayers for divine intervention, protection, and quick end to the disease,” he said.
The faith-based council chairman further advised all mosque committees in the state to provide hand washing facilities at the entrances of the prayer houses.
He said the committees should ensure that the congregation adhered to the social distancing guideline recommended by the World Health Organisation.
According to him, every individual should properly wash their hands with soap before entering the mosques.
Jika commended Islamic organisations and Muslims in the state for their cooperation amid the lockdown.
He further urged Muslims to maintain the same spirit by strictly following doctors’ advice on the imperative of abstaining from handshakes, touching of the mouth, nose, and eyes as well as the wearing of face masks in crowded area.
He appealed to corporate organisations, public-spirited individuals, non-governmental organisations, and civil society organisations to assist the needy.
“Managing the coronavirus pandemic is a collective effort as the disease does not have respect for religion, the tribe or political affiliation of any person.
“The council will continue to give maximum support to government policies and cooperate with all other relevant agencies in fighting COVID19,” Jika said.
He praised the state government for relaxing lockdown imposed in the state, saying it would enable the people to buy foodstuffs and other essential items. (NAN)
