Jos, April 20, 2020 (NAN) An NGO, Rural Development Counselors for Christian Churches in Africa (RURCON), has donated hand sanitisers and other items to 450 households in Anglo-Jos and other communities in Jos to contain the spread of coronavirus in Plateau.
Mr Kenneth Seidu, the Peace Building Officer of the organisation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos that the donation was funded by Tearfund Nigeria.

According to him, the gesture targets mostly the poorest of the poor, the aged, persons with disabilities, women and other vulnerable persons.

He added that the donation also was aimed at improving personal hygiene among the people to curb the spread of the disease in communities.
“COVID-19 pandemic remains a globally dreaded disease spreading quite fast and thousands have lost their lives, livelihoods and still counting.
“In Nigeria, Tearfund implemented an emergency response project to prevent the spread of the disease through its partners with the objective of sensitising communities on self protection.
“The objective was also to ensure the safety of others by frequent and proper hand washing, use of hand sanitisers, community sanitation, hygiene and social distancing.
“Here in Plateau, we have distributed these items to more than 450 households in Anglo-Jos and other communties,”he said.
Seidu said his organisation also seized the opportunity to sensitise the people on the need to maintain personal hygiene through regular hand washing and use of sanitisers at intervals.
He noted that the level of support, readiness and preparedness by communities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state had increased.
Seidu called on public office holders, particularly the representatives of the people to do more in sensitising, suporting and providing providing palliatives for the people at this critical time.
