Dutse, July 10, 2017 (NAN) Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), an NGO, on Monday said it spent 1.2 million dollars on programmes toward reduction of maternal, new-born and child morbidity and mortality in Jigawa.
The PPFN Director General, Dr Ibrahim Muhammad, disclosed this in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse as the world marked
World Population Day.
He said PPFN was working in collaboration with International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to ensure that women, regardless of their economic status, had access to healthcare services.
He added that “we are working to ensure that women, regardless of their economic status, have access to healthcare services.”
He explained that the NGO had been training women in the 27 local government areas of the state for about five years, who in turn became Community Resource Persons on health related issues.
The director general said women engaged in house-to-house visit to educate fellow
women in the state, particularly the pregnant ones, on the importance of visiting health facilities to seek healthcare services.
According to him, the PPFN has trained more than 260 women in 90 hard-to-reach communities in the state.
Muhammad commended the state government for its support to the NGO in achieving its goals. (NAN)
