FMC Keffi dismisses 4 staff over theft, misconduct- MHWUN

Keffi (Nassarawa State) July 13, 2017 (NAN) The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) Federal Medical Centre, Keffi Chapter, said the centre  had dismissed four of its members over theft and official misconduct.

Mr Monday Otso, the Chairman of the chapter, made the disclosure at a one-day seminar in Keffi on Thursday.

The seminar has as theme: “Work Ethics: A Panacea for Effective Service Delivery in a Tertiary Health Institution, FMC Keffi in Focus’’, organised by the union for its members.

Otso said the seminar was meant to acquaint members with the recent developments and work ethics for the overall development of the health sector and the country at large.

He said the management of the centre dismissed two members over theft; one over continued absenteeism from duties and another for sabotage.

“Over the years and in recent times, a good number of our members are not conversant with the provisions of the public service rules and scheme of service.

“They have got themselves entangled with discordant practices that do not conform to the provisions of the law.

“This has led to either the issuance of queries, stoppage of salaries and in some instances, dismissal from the service.

“We are poised, with the enthusiasm, to nip this development in the bud, and to create a more enabling environment for our teeming members,” he said.

“We have decided to put this seminar together to consolidate on our campaign promises; to better the standard of living of our members, and for the overall development of the health sector.’’

He called on members to be reliable, dedicated, punctual, and to shun all negative acts capable of tarnishing their image and that of the union, to ensure national development.

Otso commended Dr Joshua Giyan, the Chief Medical Director of the centre and his management for giving adequate attention to staff welfare and called for its sustenance.

Giyan urged union members and other members of staff to abide by the rules and work ethics guiding public service to avoid termination of appointment.

The chief medical director, represented at the event by Dr Luka Samuel, Head of Clinical Services, assured the staff of the management’s readiness to accord topmost priority to their welfare.

Giyan advised the staff to take the seminar with all seriousness in their overall interest. (NAN)
