Abuja, July 19, 2016 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced two men- Samuel Andrew, and Lukas Danladi, to three months imprisonment each for smoking cannabis sativa (a.k.a. Indian hemp).

Samuel, 24, and Danladi, 28, of no fixed addresses were sentenced on a count charge of constituting public nuisance.

The magistrate, Abubakar Sadiq, convicted them as they admitted committing the offence.

Sadiq, however, gave them an option of N10,000 fine each, and warned them to desist from committing crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that a team of police men on patrol arrested and brought the convicts to the police station.

Zannah said that the team arrested the convicts at about 9. 40 p.m. on July 7 at Silla Zaka Plaza, Utako, Abuja.

He said that they were seen smoking Indian hemp and disturbing the peace in the neighbourhood.

He said that the convicts could not give satisfactory account of themselves during police interrogation.

He added that the offence contravened Section 183 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
