Court adjourns ruling on alleged defilement of minor

Lagos, Sept. 8, 2017 (NAN) An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, has adjourned ruling in the case of 50-year-old Ugochukwu Nweke, charged with defilement of a minor and keeping her under his bed.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the accused be kept in police custody until Sept. 11 for ruling in his bail application.
Nweke, who appeared on a two-count charge of having unlawful sexual intercourse and keeping her against her will, had pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 7 at 6.00 p.m. in Fadeyi Area in Lagos State.
Omisakin alleged that the man had hidden the eight-year-old girl under his bed against her will and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with her.
He said that while the relatives of the minor were searching for her, the accused locked his door against them, while hiding the minor under his bed.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
