Court grants accused N50,000 bail for alleged assault

Modakeke (Osun), Jan. 30, 2017 (NAN) Magistrate Bose Awosan of a Modakeke Magistrates’Court , Osun, on Monday granted an accused, Paul Babalola, N50, 000 bail for alleged assault and fighting in the public .

Awosan also ruled that the accused, 44, should provide a surety in like sum who must also swear to affidavit of means.

She also ruled that the surety, who must have a landed property, should be a close relation of the accused.

The magistrate then adjourned the case to Feb 15, for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, had told the court the accused committed the offences on Jan. 16, around 10:30 p.m., at Urban Day Area in Modakeke, Ile-Ife.

Glory said that the accused assaulted one Abosede Faseki and Segun Oyotoki at different periods by beating them with a belt.

He said that Faseki sustained injuries all over her body from the beaten.

“He also fought Segun Oyotoki with a belt and also bite him on his left hand which led to bleeding,’’ he said.

According to him, the offences contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The defence counsel, Mr Egede Victor, applied for the bail for the accused in most liberal terms.

He pledged that the accused would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties. (NAN)
