Enugu, Dec. 29, 2022 (NAN) The Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ENS-PHCDA), has assured residents of Enugu State of improved vaccination and Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) service delivery in 2023.

The ENS-PHCDA also pledged to sustain the recent height attained, which earned it high rating as the best as well as some commendation letters in 2022.

This is contained in a statement by the Executive Secretary of ENS-PHCDA, Dr George Ugwu, which was made available to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday.

Announcing the scorecard of the agency in 2022, Ugwu applauded Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State whose administration provided the agency the palatable platform to operate.

According to him, the state government established modern Type-3 PHC centres in the three senatorial zones of the state.

The executive director listed the centres as Nara in Nkanu East; Umumba Ndiagu in Ezeagu; Orba in Udenu and Ibeagwa Aka in Igbo Eze South LGA; Nkporogwu/Uvuru in Uzo-Uwani LGA; Ehamufu in IsI-Uzo LGA; Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti LGA and Adaani in Uzo-Uwani LGA.

Ugwu further said that the agency had in 2022 trained and deployed over 82 midwives to other Health Care Centers across all the 17 local government areas in Enugu State.

He noted that in the outgoing year, the ENS-PHCDA conducted Life Saving Skills Training for ad-hoc and serving midwives under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).

Ugwu further thanked Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the release of more than N600,000 for the reconstruction of other PHC centres in all the political wards in the state.

“We reduced child morbidity and mortality in the state with support from UNICEF, WHO and Ugo Touch Of Life U- TOF and prevented diseases through national immunization Plus days programmes.

“The agency also introduced ROTA Vaccine against infectious diarrhea disease in children, engagement of Community Health Influencers Promoters and Services (CHIPS) and successful World Breastfeeding Week.

“All these and more earned Enugu State the second best in Primary Health Care Services in Nigeria,” Ugwu said.

He also expressed happiness over the successful Flag off of 2022 Integrated Non Polio Supplemental immunization activities in all the 17 local government areas in the state in collaboration with other partners.

He noted that Immunization campaign against measles, yellow fever and COVID-19 was embraced by all people both indigenes and non indigenes in the state.

He, therefore, urged community leaders to complement the efforts of the state government towards effective health service delivery. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
