Dutse, March 13, 2018 (NAN) Malam Bala Usman, the Jigawa Coordinator, Federal Government’s Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSPF) said that the programme had catered for about 692,380 pupils in the state.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Dutse, Usman said that the programme, which started in October 2017, has 2,250 public schools participating.

He disclosed that 3,992 cooks were engaged to prepare the meal for the pupils while each cook prepares meals for between 100 pupils and 150 pupils.

The coordinator said that highest standard of hygiene was being observed in the cooking to ensure proper nutrition for the pupils.

‘’We ensure that the cooks adhere to strict health standards to avoid contamination and allow the pupils enjoy the best meals that will encourage them to attend schools,’’ he said.

Usman, however, caution teachers against partaking in the meals prepared for the pupils, adding that ‘’we will apply necessary sanctions on any teacher caught eating such meals’’.

NAN reports that some of the engaged cooks alleged that some teachers were partaking in the meal.

He also warned the cooks against changing the menu without the consent of the authorities. (NAN)
