Abuja, Sept. 25, 2019 (NAN) Prof. Okechukwu Ukwuoma, Director-General, National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) has emphasised the importance of technology management in unlocking job opportunities in the country.
Ukwuoma said this at the opening of a workshop on, “Unlocking Potentials and Exploiting Opportunities for Wealth and Job Creation at the Grassroots: Technology Management Imperative on Tuesday at Akure, Ondo State.
In a statement by Mr Isaac Oluyi, the Public Relations Officer for NACETEM in Abuja, Ukwuoma said technology could be used to trigger massive wealth and job creation opportunities for Nigerians at the grassroots.
“One may see opportunity without recognising it, if the person has not been trained in the art of unmasking opportunities.
“ The country is blessed with a lot of potential – human and material, we are yet to live up to those potentialities.
“The time to take our rightful place, amidst the comity of nations, has come and the needful must be done to make this a reality.
“One of such actions to be taken is continuous building of capacities of our people in relevant areas to exploit opportunities for wealth and job creation, knowledge of technology management is essential,’’ he said.
According to him, technology management knowledge will not only help to identify key areas of the economy to take advantage of, but also help to identify what technology to deploy for optimal results.
“In the course of this workshop, participants will be challenged to think outside the box and be adequately prepared to see and maximise the untapped opportunities at the grassroots.
“The workshop will also open participants’ eyes to hitherto neglected or untapped opportunities, as issues pertaining to identification of opportunities, opportunity analysis and opportunities maximisation will be shed light.’’
Ukwuoma described the workshop as timely to enable the participants acquire knowledge that would help them contribute to the economy.
“Without doubt, Nigeria is blessed with a lot of natural resources, capable of making the country one of the best economically viable nations of the world. Resources alone, however, don’t make nations any longer.
“The world is changing. In fact, the dynamics of what makes nations to develop and grow have since changed. It is no longer resource-based, but completely knowledge-based.
“This goes to show that you may have resources and still be poor, if you don’t know how to drive them with cutting edge knowledge.“
According to him, the workshop is organised in conjunction with John Kollins Institute to trigger massive wealth and job creation opportunities for Nigerians at the grassroots. (NAN)
