Dutse, Nov. 6, 2019 (NAN) The Jigawa Rehabilitation Board has called for synergy between Corporate organisations and Jigawa government to support People Living With Disability (PLWD).

The board’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Rabakaya made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.

He said that supporting PLWD should not be the sole responsibility of the government alone pointing out that corporate organizations and well-meaning individuals should also contribute their quota towards assisting such people.

“It is God that made them to be in that condition, therefore, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals should also sympathize with them and come to their aid.

“For instance in Jigawa, initially, we were paying a total of N28.3 million monthly as Social Security to the Physically Challenged across the 27 local Government Areas but the amount has now dropped to N11.6 million because of death.

“We don’t replace if someone dies, we only continue to pay those who are alive.

“The State Government pays N7, 000 to each beneficiary, altogether we have a total of 4,050 beneficiaries, and each local government has 150 beneficiaries, we have a total of N28.3 million every month.

“But the total number of beneficiaries in the whole state has now dropped to 1, 664 and we are now paying total sum of N11.6 million because of death which I earlier stated”, Rabakaya said.

The executive secretary said that from their statistics, between June 2019 to August 2019, no fewer than 58 beneficiaries have died that is in the third quarter of the year. (NAN)
