Sales rep. appears in court for absconding with employer’s N1.4m

Lagos, Aug. 6, 2019 (NAN) A 23-year-old sales representative, Ebere Emekekwe, on Tuesday, appeared before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly absconding with her employer’s N1.4 million.
Emekekwe, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing; to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Okoi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 3 at 1p.m. at No. 17, Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island.
Okoi said that the defendant absconded with N1.4 million belonging to the complainant, Mr Vincent Oguanobi.
“The defendant left the shop on the said day with the excuse that she wanted to go and buy lunch but he did not come back.
Shortly after, the complainant later found out that the money he kept in his drawer was missing.
“She was later caught through the help of her brother, who was her
guarantor for the job,” he said.
Okoi said the offences contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN ) reports that the section stipulates seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 15 for mention. (NAN)
