Bad-loser syndrome, the greatest undoing of most students, says author

Bauchi, June. 15, 2019 (NAN) An author and under-graduate of Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa University (ATBU) , Bauchi, Habib Jimoh, says the lack of strong heart to confront challenges has been the greatest undoing of most youth, particularly students, who have lost out in life.
Making the observation in Bauchi on Saturday during the launch of his book titled “Propelling Success”, he said based on his interaction with students, most of them wanted to attain success on a platter of gold,as such they often gave in to the slightest obstacle.
He said a lot of friends had given up on their journey in life and in the course of study due to one or two obstacles, adding that he was also a victim of obstacles that almost made him to abandon his studies.
“I have a lot of friends who gave up on their journey to academic success, or on their journey in life.
“They gave up due to one or two obstacles they were facing. However, giving up should not be the case.
“I believe whenever you are on a journey, those obstacles you are facing are actually a lesson you need to learn from because they are leading you to the success path you are going for.
“When I was in three hundred level, I experienced some failures in my academic life because I engaged in unionism and extra-curricula activities that took most of my time.
“As such, I had carry-over in many subjects, just like some of my colleagues, who later gave-up and dropped out of school, but I was able to withstand the obstacle and redeem myself.,” said Jimoh.
He also said that after the experience, he worked on some ‘consolation’ write-ups to ‘console’ himself, which he later documented and compiled into a publication titled ‘Propelling Success’ to inspire others facing similar challenges.
Jimoh, who is now one of the best students of Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, said the book was written to educate, enlighten and inspire students and the general pubic towards rekindling and reigniting the dying spirit in times when all hopes appear to have been lost.
In his remarks at the occasion, Pro. Lawal Abubakar, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Prof. Lawal Abubakar, said the book would serve as a handy reference document for students in times of despair.
He therefore commended the author for writing a wonderful book and urged other students to emulate him.
Also speaking, Mr Ibrahim Lawal from the Department of Civil Engineering advised all students to get a copy of the book, adding that accounts of the many experiences coming from a student of the institution could be invaluable. (NAN)
