Enrolment
By Muhammad Nasir Bashir
Dutse, July 26, 2017 (NAN) Malam Abubakar Muhammad, the Coordinator, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Jigawa, has advised youths to enrol in skill acquisition programmes to avoid being unemployed, even after graduation.
Muhammad, who assumed duty recently as the directorate’s coordinator in the state, said that skill acquisition was the panacea to the country’s unemployment challenges.
He told newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday that youths need to equip themselves to be able to start and manage their own businesses.
The coordinator said youths could also be employers of labour it they manage their businesses very well.
Muhammad emphasised that small businesses, or micro, small and medium enterprises, are the bedrock of any nation’s economy.
‘‘You will believe me that federal, state and local governments have been introducing different skill acquisition programmes for our teeming youths.
‘‘So, I am advising our youths in Jigawa, including graduates of tertiary institutions in Jigawa and other states, to enrol for such programmes in order to avoid being unemployed,’’ he advised.
According to him, the training schemes were specifically designed to tackle unemployment and reduce youth restiveness through the provision of functional skills.
‘‘The era of white-collar jobs is gone, hence the need to re-create the blue collar-job, which entails manual activities.
‘‘So, our youth should take advantage of the presence of NDE in their states to acquire skills on different income-generating trades as a matter of priority,’’ he said. (NAN)
