Kano, July 5,2017(NAN) Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday called for unity and tolerance among Nigerians.
Obasanjo made the call when he paid a condolence visit to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje over the death of late Maitama Sule at the Government House, Kano.
He said what Nigeria needed was unity of purpose and political stability.
He also urged Nigerians to shun calls for the division of the country and unite for the good of the nation.
“Let us allow our diversity to strengthen our unity, let us be our brother’s and sisters keepers.” he said.
The former President condoled with the people and government of the state over the death of elder statesman, late Maitama Sule.
He described the late Ambassador as a statesman who was among the generation that laid the foundations of modern Nigeria.
While praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased Obasanjo said the late Dan Manasanin Kano was a true statesman who gave his all to the nation he truly believed in.
“We thank God for their lives and service. We pray for God’s mercy on the departed and guidance for those of us alive.” he said.
In his remarks, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje described former President Obasanjo as a detribalised leader who had always identified with the people of Kano on many occasions. (NAN)
