Sokoto, Nov. 22, 2016 (NAN) The Sokoto State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Mustapha Sahabi as the substantive Auditor-General of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, the confirmation followed a motion moved by the Assembly’s Leader, Alhaji Garba Bello (APC- Yabo), after screening the nominee in the committee of the whole house.
He said: “In view of the provision of section 126 subsection (1) and (2) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal has submitted the name of nominee for the post of the state Auditor-General.
“This nomination becomes necessary as a result of the retirement of the former Auditor-General Alhaji Sambo Nawawi on July, 2016.
“Therefore, the Assembly do screen the nominee for confirmation of appointment as the substantive state Auditor-General.”
The Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, after the members unanimously approved the appointment of Sahabi, said, “The nominee is hereby confirmed for onward delivery to the executive.
“He acquired all the necessary requirements for the appointment as the state Auditor-General being reflection of the decision of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.”
Briefing newsmen shortly after the confirmation, Sahabi promised to work diligently and professionally for the overall development of the state.
“We will ensure our integrity and independence in serving the state, with the professional experience in conducting the work, to avoid any breach of the constitutional requirements,” he said. (NAN)
