Gombe, Feb. 7, 2017 (NAN) The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gombe State Command, says it arrested 102 suspected drug addicts from Jan. to Dec. 2016.
The NDLEA Commandant in the state, Mr Aliyu Adole, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesda.
Adole added that at least 80 of the suspects had been successfully prosecuted, while 20 are awaiting prosecution.

“We also arrested 102 suspects, who were all taken to court.
“And we had a very successful presentation in the court we had a lot of convictions in court.
“Out of this number of people we presented in court, we successfully prosecuted roughly 80 suspects and now have only 20 pending cases.”

Adole said the command also removed 413.565kg of psychotropic substances and 40 litres of alcohol-based stimulants.

“These quantity, mostly is tramol, Exxon five, diazepam and Pentosin is unfortunate that this number is high like this.
“Because if you check our arrests and the age bracket involved, you will found out that the major culprits are youths of between the ages of 20 and 30.’’

He said the agency’s officials discovered that the suspects were in the habit of using the hard drugs both orally and intravenously.
Adole, who said some youths had developed symptoms of the reaction to the drugs on their hands, advised parents to always observe the skins of their children for unusual patches.
He attributed the high prevalence of drug addiction among the youth to peer group influence. (NAN)
