Abuja, Feb.2, 2017 (NAN) The Auditor- General of the Federation, Mr Anthony Ayine, on Thursday urged members of staff to uphold work ethics of cooperation, commitment and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
Ayine made the call in a statement signed by Mrs Olawunmi Ogunmosunle, the Media Director, Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation in Abuja.
He made the call while interacting with audit staff on Salary Grade Level 13 to 16.
The auditor-general said that the collective interest of the office should be paramount to all staff of the organisation.
Ayine said the future of the Office depended on the staff, hence the responsibility to deliver, adding that work performance and character enhanced ability of the staff to deliver on the job.
He said, “the Office has the constitutional mandate to be at the forefront of ensuring public accountability, transparency and integrity in governance.
“Thus, the Office must have a distinct corporate culture of distinctive approach to things, integrity and discipline.”
He, however, implored the members of staff to be dedicated and thorough in the discharge of their duties.
Ayine explained that since the end product of every audit work was a good quality audit report, audit unit should be properly planned and executed to detect errors and fraud.
He pledged to run an open government, where there would be fairness and justice to all, adding that, grievances would be given quick response to prevent bottling – up of anger.
He also promised to ensure a conducive working environment and give necessary attention to the welfare of staff.
The Auditor-General appealed for understanding, commitment and discipline among staff to enable the Office to be succeed in the discharge of its responsibilities.
He also promised that the Office would reach out more to the National Assembly and have robust engagements with them so that the work of the Office could be strengthened.
The meeting is in continuation of the series of engagements between the Auditor-General for the Federation and the different level of officers in the Office.
The interactive meetings are aimed at explaining the thrust of the Auditor-General’s plans for repositioning the Office for better productivity.
It aims at cultivating closeness with the different levels of staff for a sense of belonging and inclusiveness in governance.
Also, it is aimed at having a cross fertilization of ideas for service delivery as the foremost anti-corruption Institution in Nigeria. (NAN)
