Bauchi, Feb.25,2017 (NAN) Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday elected new officials to take charge of its affairs for the next three years, with Ibrahim Malam-Goje of Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC), emerging the new chairman of the council.
Announcing the result of the election, Mr Gbemiga Bamidele, Deputy National Secretary of the NUJ, said Mallam-Goje defeated three other contestants to clinch the position, just as Isa Gadau of the State Television triumphed over his only opponent to become the Vice Chairman.
Yakubu Lame of the State Ministry of Information emerged the Secretary of the council, defeating two other candidates, while Kabiru Garba of BRC out-polled the only female contestant in the election, Mrs Rashida Yusuf of the State Television, to emerge the Assistant Secretary.
Other winners were Abubakar Waziri of FRCN FM Station, Bauchi (Treasurer), Danjuma Sale of BRC (Auditor) and Najib Sani of Blue-Print Newspaper, who emerged unopposed as Financial Secretary.
North East Zonal Secretary of the NUJ, Mrs Aishatu Ibrahim, administered the oath of office on the winners shortly after the results were announced.
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who covered the election reports that although the exercise was conducted without rancor, policemen were drafted to the NUJ Press Centre, venue of the election, to forestall any breach of the peace. (NAN)
