Benin, May 24, 2017 (NAN) Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin on Wednesday defeated Heartland of Owerri by 1-0 at the ongoing 2016/2016 Nigeria National League season.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Insurance scored the only goal to defeat Heartland in the 69th minute, courtesy of Meyinwa Oritse.
Insurance was in 7th position on the log, while Heartland occupied 1st position before their encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin, to round up their first round matches.
Head coach of Bendel Insurance, Roland Ewere, lauded the efforts of his players.
Ewere, who also praised the officiating of the match, said his boys played to his instructions.
Heartland of Owerri Head Coach, Ramson Madu, said his players did a great job, adding that Insurance had home advantage over his team.
Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, commended the efforts of both teams and urged them to work harder to ensure their inclusion as players on the national team. (NAN)
