Lagos, Feb. 23, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday fixed Feb. 24 for judgement after three men pleaded guilty to charges of breach of the peace, conspiracy and threatening violence.
The court ordered that the men should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons pending sentence.
The accused — Folorunso Olabisi, 27; Rasheed Somoye, 20; and Simon Solomon, 23 — who are driver and conductors respectively, are all residents of Alakuko, a Lagos suburb.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, who gave the ruling, said the accused had pleaded guilty, the court would appropriately sentence them.
He then fixed Friday for facts and sentence.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 18 at Alakuko on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
He said the accused with others still at large conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by fighting in the pubic place.
“The accused and others engaged in a free-for-all and disturbing the peace of residents of the area.”
Nwosu said an argument ensued between two group of drivers and conductors which degenerated into a fight.
“There was a disagreement between the transporters of Alakuko and Amje area over an undisclosed reason.
“They started inflicting wounds on one another with dangerous weapons.
“The timely intervention of policemen who rushed to the scene, however, saved the situation; the accused were arrested, while others ran away,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 56, 166 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that threatening violence carries one year imprisonment, while Section 166 stipulates three months or N45, 000 fine or both.
Section 409 provides two years for offenders. (NAN)
