Businesswoman docked for alleged criminal trespass, causing hurt

Mararaba (Nasarawa State), May 22, 2017‎ (NAN) A 25-year-old businesswoman, Cecilia Joshua, was on Monday arraigned in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, in Nasarawa State, for allegedly attacking and injuring a fellow businesswoman .‎

The defendant was docked on charges bordering on criminal trespass, mischief and causing hurt ‎ without provocation or confrontation.‎

The prosecutor‎, Cpl. Hamen Donald, had told the court that one Mrs Mercy John, also a businesswoman of Kabayi Last Bus- Stop, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at the Mararaba ’A’ Division Police Station on May 13.

Donald said that the defendant, a resident of behind ECWA Church, Kabayi, Mararaba went to the complainant’s shop and attacked her.

He said in the process, the defendant tore the complainant’s vest valued at N600, while the complainant also lost her Itel phone, valued at N5,000.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 348, 327 and 244 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, denied committing the offences.

‎The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 and one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until May 30 for hearing.(NAN)
