Lagos, April, 13 2017 (NAN) A 47-year-old car dealer, Victor Okolo, on Thursday appeared in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding a female customer of 30,000 dollars.
Okolo is facing a three-count charge of fraud, theft and giving false information to the police.
The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.
The prosecutor, Insp. Philip Osijiale, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in November 2014 at Lekki, Lagos.
He said the accused allegedly defrauded the complainant, Mrs Amira Abdullahi, of 30,000 dollars on the pretext of helping her to buy a Wrangler jeep.
According to Osijiale, the accused did not deliver the vehicle as agreed and also failed to refund the money.
He said the accused had on Feb. 2 at Zonal Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, given false information to the police concerning the issue being investigated.
The offences, Osijiale noted, contravened Sections 115, 278 (1), 285 and 312 (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 115, 278 and 285 provide three years imprisonment, while Section 312 prescribes 15 years for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, granted the accused N5 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 12, while the other surety must be a landed property owner with Certificate of Occupancy.
The case was adjourned until April 28 for mention. (NAN)
