Jajimaji (Yobe State), Sept. 12, 2017 (NAN) Chinese Geo-Engineering Company (CGC) on Tuesday presented relief materials to over 100 victims of flood in Jajimaji, Yobe State, in fulfillment of its corporate social responsibility to the host community.
Mr Wen Kaiming, the North East Regional Manager of the company, presented the relief materials in Jajimaji, headquarters of Karasuwa Local Government Council.
Kaiming said the company enjoyed good relationship with the host community while constructing Karasuwa-Jajimaji road.
He added that “this is pay back time for the host community that we enjoyed good relationship with; we share the pains of the community at this trying moment.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the company donated 150 bags of 25kg rice, 200 cartons of noodles, 100 cartons of vegetable oil and 100 cartons of table water.
Alhaji Musa Jidawa, the Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who received the materials on behalf of the state government, commended the company for assisting the flood victims.
He said “the corporate social responsibility exhibited by CGC is worthy of emulation by other organisations to complement government efforts in providing succour to the victims.”
Jidawa assured that the materials would be equitably distributed among the victims with close monitoring and supervision by the agency to check against diversion.
According to him, Yobe Government has provided 200 bags of rice, 100 bags of millet, 100 bags of sorghum, 100 Jerry cans of vegetable oil, 100 cartons of sphagetti, 100 cartons of noodles, fairly used clothes and towels, among others, to the victims.
The permanent secretary urged people across the state not to build structures on water ways and to clear drains to allow free flow of water.
More than 100 households, several farmlands and animals were swept away by flood in Jajimaji in August. (NAN)
