Toto (Nasarawa State), April 21, 2017 (NAN) The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) in Nasarawa State has urged women to embrace skill acquisition training and entrepreneurship development programmes to become self reliant.
Mrs Aishatu Isah-Idoma, the NCWS President in Nasarawa State, made the call on Friday in Toto Local Government Area when she visited Alhaji Mohammed Musa-Ohinoyi, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of the
council.
Isah-Idoma said embracing skill acquisition would reduce poverty and improve the womens’ standard of living, as well as the socio-economic development of the country.
The NCWS Nasarawa president explained that the visit was to thank women in the area for their support during and after elections and urged them to sustain the spirit of togetherness, irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
She added that “NCWS is not a political body, but it is out to protect the interest of women and support them when they face challenges and the only way to achieve success is for women to sustain the spirit of togetherness, irrespective of their affiliations.
“We all know that women are very important in the society as we have contributed a lot to the development of the society and I urge us to continue to contribute to the development of our areas, the state and the country at large
“It is in view of this I want to appeal to women and other Nigerians to embrace education, skill acquisition training programmes to become self reliant and to contribute to the development of the country.”
According to her, education is the bedrock of every society, hence the need for parents to make it top priority for their children.
She appealed to government at all levels to consider women in terms of appointment for them to benefit from dividends of democracy.
She enumerated the major challenges facing the NCWS to include office accommodation and appealed to well-meaning individuals to come to the aid of the society.
Responding, Musa-Ohinoyi commended the society for the visit and promised to support the activities of women in the area.
He also urged women to live in unity and peace and not to relent in their efforts toward preaching peace to their fellow women and other Nigerians for the overall development of the country. (NAN)
