Court jails 22-year-old man 3 years for theft

Lagos, Feb. 10, 2017 (NAN) A 22-year-old man, Sunday Ndubisi, who robbed a passerby of his valuables worth N400,000, is to spend the next three years behind bars.

A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced Ndubuisi to three years imprisonment, having found him guilty of conspiracy, theft and unlawfully armed with dangerous weapons.

The convict and his accomplice, Jamiu Ifesanya,19, arraigned on Jan. 23, pleaded guilty, but Ifesanya changed his plea.

The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, sentenced Ndubisi to one year imprisonment on each of the three-count and said the sentence would run concurrently.

Kazeem, however, granted Ifesanya bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till March 5 for trial.

The prosecutor, Insp. Philip Osijiale, had told the court that the convict and Ifesanya on Dec. 29 at about 1:20 a.m. under the bridge at Obalende, ‘waylaid’a passerby, Olatunji Olayiwo.

He said that the duo, armed with a knife and machete, accosted and overpowered Olayiwo, a Disc Jockey, and dispossessed him of items valued N400, 000.

Osijiale said the offences contravened sections 51, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
