Abuja, Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN) A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday remanded four security guards in Kuje Prison for alleged negligence conduct.
The defendant are Shaibu Muhammed , 28; Benjamin Forembe, 35; Mathew Joseph, 37; and Fasiah Emmauel, 29; all of Gbessa Village, Airport Road, Abuja.
The defendants abandoned their duty post in Pilab Quarry Company, Gbessa on the Airport Road which paved way for burglars to gain access and stole armored cables worth N1.19 million
They are standing trail on a one-count charge of negligent conduct.
The presiding officer, Mr Garba Ogbede, ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody till Jan. 30.
The prosecuting counsel, Miss Vivian Oporomo, told the court that on Jan. 11, Badru Rafin of Pilab Quarry Company, Gbessa reported the matter at Iddo Police Station.
Oporomo said the defendants were employed to work as security guards in the company.
She said that the four security guards were expected to be on duty at the time the crime was committed.
The prosecutor said during police investigations, all effort to recover the stolen cables proved abortive because the defendant could not give satisfactory account of the said armored cables.
Oporomo said the offence contravened section 196 of the Penal Code.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
