Arson

Ile-Ife (Osun), May 17, 2018 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, Osun, on Thursday, slammed a two- million naira bail on a 47-year-old woman, Adenike Adebayo for alleged arson.
Adebayo, whose address was not given, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and arson.
Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum.
Ijiyode added that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means; reside within the court’s jurisdiction and that their addresses should be verified by a court official.
He added that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade/Level 06 as well as present two recent passport photographs each.
The case was adjourned until June 26 for hearing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Christian Olajide, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 7, around 10 p.m. at No 101B, Ebenco Pharmacy, Moore, Ile-Ife.
Olajide said that the accused conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit arson.
He added that the accused willfully and unlawfully used petrol to set fire on a building belonging to Adebayo Joshua’s family property (Ebenco Pharmacy).
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 443 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Taiwo Adekunle, however, applied for the bail of his client on liberal terms. (NAN)
