Inauguration
Barkin Ladi (Plateau), March 30, 2020 (NAN) Mr Ezekiel Mandyau, Chairman, Barkin Ladi Local Government Management Committee in Plateau, has urged the newly-inaugurated Central Planning and Sub-Committees on prevention of COVID-19 of the Council to find ways of effectively curtailing the spread of the disease.
Mandyau made the call on Monday during the inauguration of the committees at the council’s Youth Centre.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sub- Committes include: Awareness and Advocacy, Enforcement, Medical facilities and Health services and Secretariat and Logistics.
Their terms of reference include: enforcement of strict compliance of preventive measures, intensifying information sharing and sensitisation on the dangers of the disease and precautionary measures in public places.
Others are: liaising with relevant Government agencies and organisations for the procurement of necessary kits and medical facilities to contain the virus and to adopt any other method that could help the Central Planning Committee achieve its set goals.
Mandyau, who is the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, said, “Coronavirus is a dangerous and deadly disease that we must all take seriously and prevent it from surfacing here in Barkin-Ladi.”
“The reason for the formation of these Sub-Committees is to ensure that all stakeholders are brought together to brainstorm on ways or how best to prevent the virus from coming here.
“We expect everyone of us to give his/her input on best modalities and facilities needed to ensure prevention and control of the disease.
“In the interim, all weddings and burial ceremonies should be left for family members as a way of controlling crowd and social distancing,” he declared.
Responding on behalf of members of the Sub-Committees, retired Capt. Dusu Nyam, Council Secretary, thanked the Chairman for counting on them and pledged to do their best to prevent the virus in the area.
Earlier in her address on the dangers of the virus, Dr Ngozi Ogbuagu, Medical Superintendent, Barkin-Ladi General Hospital, warned that “COVID-19 was now airborne and must be treated with all seriousness and prevented from infecting any citizen.” (NAN)
