Ibadan, April 1, 2020 (NAN) An Ibadan-based NGO, Agricultural Social Entrepreneurship Foundation, on Wednesday, donated food items to the Oyo State government for distribution to 600 households.
Mr Azeez Oluwole, the Founder of the NGO and Chief Executive Officer of Farm Konnect, said that the initiative was to assist the state government in its efforts at cushioning the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the food items donated included beans, garri and salt.
Oluwole said that the organisation was ready to collaborate with government in addressing the challenges relating to COVID-19 in the state.
Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, Dr Debo Akande, the Executive Secretary, Agriculture Business, thanked the NGO for the gesture, especially at this crucial time.
Akande called on other organisations and individuals to emulate the initiative, saying that there was a central purse for all donations and would be used judiciously.
He said that the distribution of the items to the less-privileged would be in accordance with the method provided by the state government.
In his remarks, Mr Jacob Ojekunle, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, noted that the donation was timely and would go a long way in assisting the less-privileged in the society.
Ojekunle implored the people of the state to adhere to the directives of government on the closure of markets and the dusk-to-dawn curfew, saying the order was for their benefit.
He also urged them to always wash their hands with soap, use sanitisers and maintain social distancing, as parts of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state. (NAN)
