Benin, April 1, 2020 (NAN) The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), a subsidiary of the NNPC, has donated personal protective and medical equipment worth millions of naira to the Edo Government

The donation of the items by the subsidiary of the Ngirian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Wednesday in Benin, was in support of government’s fight against COVID-19 in the state.

The items included 166 cartons of hand sanitisers, 83 cartons of hand wash and 100 sets of personal protective equipment.

Others were: five cartons of face masks, 50 parks (5,000 pieces) of hand gloves and 300 tubes of disinfective wipes, among others.

The Managing Director, NPDC, Mansur Sambo, represented by Mr Dahiru Abubakar, Manager, Community Relations, NPDC, presented the items to the state government.

Sambo said the gesture was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibilities to its host communities.

“Management thought it wise to make available these items to compliment the state government’s efforts in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

“This is the first phase of the intervention in the journey to ensure that COVID-19 is eliminated in the state and the nation at large.

“Aside from this presentation we are making here today, we are also going to extend the donation to all states where NPDC operates.

“At the moment, what we have for Edo state are essentially the medical and personal protective equipment.

“Our emphasis is on our doctors, nurses and other medical officials that will help us in the course of ensuring that we put an end to the pandemic,” he said.

Receiving the items, the Deputy Governor and Chairman, Edo COVID-19 Response Committee, Philip Shaibu, expressed gratitude to the company for the gesture.

Shaibu called for such collaborative efforts from other organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to combat the pandemic.

He, however, restated the need to maintain social distancing of more than 2 metres from one another, regularly wash hands with soap and running water and apply sanitiser on regular basis to stay safe. (NAN)
