Manifesto

Abuja, May 18, 2018 (NAN) Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Bayo Onanuga, has advised political parties built around youths to leverage experience of older generation and not discard them.
He also urged the young politicians to develop, in their political parties, “robust“ manifesto that would elicit the difference between and the older politicians.
Onanuga gave the advice on Friday in Abuja when he received a delegation the leadership of Restoration Party of Nigeria (RPN), a young political party,on a visit to NAN Headquarters.
He pointed out that what was lacking in many political groups in the country was manifesto, saying that political parties of these days were without manifestos.
“Any party must be able to codify what they have for Nigeria and give us figures, statistics about how they want to arrive at that destination they have highlighted in the manifesto.’’
Onanuga said that political parties in many countries, including the United States of America, always had manifestos they worked with, which was their national plan.
He advised the youths to take their place in the scheme of things, and that it was not new because young people had in the past,been involved in Nigeria`s politics.
“Nigerian founding fathers like Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe, among others, took part in politics when they were young.
“They started taking part in politics when they were in their 30`s. Obasanjo was 38 years when he was head of state. So, young people have been in politics before now,“ he said.
Onanuga expressed the agency’s support for the young party, saying it was there for all and at all times.
According to him, NAN is owned by Nigerians and will always fulfil its mandate to the people, including support for the group.
Earlier, National Chairman of the party, Mr Nsebong Nsehe, had said that the party`s aim was to get the youth actively involved in politics with the view of reshaping Nigeria.
Nsehe, who led the party`s delegation, said that the team was on the visit to seek NAN`s support and to acquaint its management with some of the challenges the party.
He acknowledged NAN`s support in the party`s previous activities and sought for strengthened partnership in the dissemination of information about the party.
In his contribution, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Ewomazino Aliku, announced that the party would participate in the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti.
He said that the party would also field candidate for the governorship poll in Osun in September, adding that RPN, registered about six months ago, already had offices in 25 states.(NAN)
