Minna, Nov. 6, 2019 ( NAN) The Director General Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Niger State, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, says that erecting a befitting secretariat for Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Niger State Chapter, was germane to free press.

Baba-Arah said this when members of NAWOJ paid him a courtesy visit in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the association on Wednesday in Minna.

He said NAWOJ had a right to a secretariat building because it was within the scope of the SDGs to provide intervention in certain issues and information dissemination was one of such issues.

“SDGs is sensitive on gender, we undertake women and youth empowerment, Information dissemination is part of our mandate here.

“It is part of our mandate to propagate information, disseminate information the way and manner the citizens are supposed to conduct their lives, particularly in the area of environmental sanitation, health care, quality medication among others.

“It is not out of place if SDGs give intervention to NAWOJ by constructing a befitting secretariat for the women journalists to undertake their activities, to enable them put out their best,” he said.

Baba-Arah explained that SDGs was on course and hoped the structure would be put to use, based on the vision and objective of the association.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) built a secretariat for NAWOJ in Minna under the leadership of Mrs Mary Noel-Berje, NAWOJ Chairperson Niger Chapter. (NAN)
