Ilorin, July 12,2018 (NAN) A don, Mr Ibrahim Oseni has called on government at all levels to ensure that science laboratories in schools and colleges were well equipped to expose the students to science revolution.
Oseni, who lectures at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Ilorin on Thursday.
He said science and technology skills were essential for students to boost science and technology in Nigeria and fast-track the nation development.
The lecturer also said that every student in the country should be aware of the importance of science and technology skills as the main tool for the growth and development of any country.
“Government should ensure that science laboratories in schools and colleges are well equipped to expose the students to science revolution across the globe.
“It is time for Nigeria to compete with the western world in terms of science and technology skills. Experts should be assigned to schools to get students interested in science courses.
“Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture and Biology should be seen as friendly subjects and not enemy subjects, as most students believe,” he said.
Oseni also called on parents to encourage their children to embrace science knowledge, adding that such would help to change the face of African development in the nearest future.
According to him, science and technology skills has driven many advanced countries like China, Japan, Germany to greater height, adding that Nigeria should learn from them.
“It is advisable to start from our children in nursery and primary schools.
“Exposing them to sciences will help to provide creative engineers, medical experts, astronomers and geographers who will make our environment conducive in the future.’’ (NAN)
