Manslaughter

Modakeke (Osun), Jan. 30, 2017 (NAN) An Osun Magistrate’s Court in Modakeke, Ile-Ife, on Monday remanded one Lamidi Olonade, 68, in prison over alleged manslaughter and reckless driving.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan 4 at about 3:30 p.m. at Celestial Junction, Famia Road, Modakeke-Ife.
Glory said that the accused drove one unregistered Vento Saloon car recklessly on a public highway without having regards to traffic rules and regulations.
He said that the conduct of the accused on the highway led to the death of one Ayobami Isawumi and Funmilayo Famakinde.
The prosecutor also said that the accused disregard to traffic rules caused one Blessing Akinpelu to sustain serious injuries and a broken left leg.
According to him, the accused drove recklessly on the highway without driver’s licence and under the influence of alcohol drink.
He said that the accused was drunk, adding that this led to loss of control of the vehicle.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 5, 6, 10 (1), 28 and 30 (1) of the Road Traffic, Act Cap 135, Vol 6, Laws of the Federation, 1990.
The accused, who was not represented by a counsel, pleaded guilty to the six-count charge levelled against him.
The Magistrate, Bose Awosan, ordered the remand of the accused at Ile-Ife prison.
She adjourned the case till Feb. 13 for hearing. (NAN)
