Dutse, Feb. 8, 2017 (NAN) Dutse Local Government Council in Jigawa, has constituted an 18 member Consumer Protection Committee to sanitise commercial activities in the area.
Malam Ya’u Garba, the council’s Information Officer, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Dutse in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Garba said Alhaji Iliyasu Adamu, the caretaker committee chairman of the council, who inaugurated the committee, urged its members to discharge their duty with probity and with fear of God.
He said the committee would go round markets in the area to check the activities of traders who short changed customers.
He said the committee was also given the mandate to protect consumers from cheating traders, adding that it would also provide consumers the opportunity to get correct value for their money.
Garba explained that the committee would sanitise business environment and ensure accuracy in measurement of goods purchased in all commercial transactions in the state.
The Information Officer said the committee would also ensure that traders comply with the use of the standardised measuring bowls newly introduced by the government.
