Ilorin, July 18, 2019 (NAN) A medical expert, Dr Femi Babatunde, has appealed to the people of Kwara to adopt to maintain healthy environment, good habits and ensure proper waste disposal to check environmental degradation.

Babatunde of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Wednesday.

According to him, un-degradable polythene bags should be replaced with more environment-friendly bags while emission of carbon fumes from various machines should be reduced to the barest minimum.

“It is saver for every individual to volunteer to keep his or her environment clean.

“The clean environment determines a healthy living and it should not be left for government alone to do.

“As individual, we can also volunteer to be cleaner by dumping refuse at the proper place and not anywhere on the street, in order to maintain healthy environment,’’ he said.

According to him, the planet earth is under threat, saying that the development demands global intervention efforts.

The medical practitioner said uncontrolled industrialisation processes and other human activities led to imbalances in the ecosystem with negative effects on public health.

He, therefore, urged the people to participate in “Keep Kwara Clean” by demonstrating the willingness to offer free service to maintaining healthy environment.

“This is the time for everybody in the state to be ready to offer free service, energy, time, skills and other resources to maintain a conducive and healthy environment.

“This should be done without expecting any financial reward in return.’’(NAN)
