Ex-convict bags 5 years imprisonment for house breaking

Akure, Jan. 25, 2017 (NAN) An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 19-year-old ex-convict, Christopher Uche Okoro, to five years imprisonment for house breaking.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, sentenced Okoro without an option of fine for the one-count charge of house breaking.

“Having admitted to the offence and taken evidence from the prosecutor, I am persuaded to sentence the defendant.

“The accused person is hereby sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour without an option of fine,” Bob-manuel said.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the convict on Jan. 8, broke into the house of one Mr Akinyosotu Olaleye at 9.00 pm with intent to commit felony.

He said that the offence was committed at Aratunsi area of Oke Aro in Akure.

“During the police investigation, the accused person confessed that he had just been released on Dec. 10, 2016, from Olokuta prison for similar offence after serving eight months,” the prosecutor said.

Olowofeso said that the offence committed contravened Section 411(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Okoro, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded guilty but prayed the court to have mercy on him. (NAN)
